Les Jamelles

Marseillette, South of France, France
Owner: Laurent and Catherine Delaunay

Winery Summary

Wines with a different spirit. “Les Jamelles” is a unique collection of handcrafted varietal wines that have been produced in the South of France since 1991. Created by Laurent and Catherine Delaunay, “Les Jamelles” offers real handcrafted quality and the simplicity of authentic products.

Vineyards

Les Jamelles is sourced from a wide range of geographic features, from the sunny beaches on the Mediterranean sea to the plains of Béziers, to the banks of the Rhône to the Pyrenees mountains. As in Burgundy, the region offers an infinite of terroirs and microclimates, allowing the various strengths of each region to be harnesssed.

Winemaking Philosophy

The grapes are vinified on site as close as possible to the vineyards, under the watchful eye of Catherine Delaunay. The most up-to-date techniques are used, and are adapted to suit the characteristics of each wine and each vintage. When the wines have been aged, the final blending decisions are made to ensure that the wines produced reflect the diversity of their terroirs and are complex and well-balanced.

Media Reviews

2009 LES JAMELLES SYRAH

‘It’s a Vin de Pays d’Oc, which I just tend to bundle under France. This is the sort of wine that you’d be thrilled to be served by the glass at a good bistro.’

‘Mint or aniseed, pepper, dried herbs, black fruit and a little vanilla. It’s medium bodied with appropriately rustic raspy tannins, delivering excellent flavour and satisfying length. The whole impression is of a rugged, but wholesome wine that does its job admirably. Flavour profile is both a point of difference and interest as compared to local wines.’ 89 Points Top Value www.winefront.com.au (Gary Walsh)

2008 LES JAMELLES SYRAH

‘This shows a peppery edge with light, bright red fruits, fragrant notes, raspberry leaf, summer berries – a really pretty wine. The palate is smooth and compact with plenty of juicy tannins and bright fruit crunch, and an attractive, dusty, earthy finish.’ 93 Points GT Wine Magazine

2009 LES JAMELLES SAUVIGNON BLANC

‘A fairly austere and savoury nose with a swathe of tropical fruits, some pineapple and passionfruit, melon and apple. The palate is laid out as a smooth sweep of citrus and tropical flavours, dried herbs. It’s a balanced and even sauvignon blanc.’ 91 Points GT Wine Magazine

2008 LES JAMELLES CABERNET SAUVIGNON

‘This has perfumed and lively red and dark berry aromas, bright fragrance and a musky sweet floral side. There is some light, fine oak complexity, too. Made to drink young, its blueberry fruit flavours roll through easygoing supple tannins. A good summer red.’ 91 Points GT Wine Magazine
