Armchair Critic

Heathcote, Tumbarumba, Australia
Wine Maker: Corey Ryan

Winery Summary

Armchair Critic, comprising two ranges – Armchair Critic and Under & Over, is Corey Ryan and Nicholas Crampton’s opinion on the way forward for Australian wine globally. Established vineyards in the best regions planted to the most suitable varieties, regardless of fashion, creating balanced wines of character and complexity.

Vineyards

Tumbarumba’s cool climate and high altitude, with vineyards rising to 900m, is vital in creating Chardonnay with elegance, subtlety and length. Heathcote’s ancient Cambrian soils combine with a warm, dry climate to create wines of brooding intensity and effortless power whilst retaining the structure and fine tannins to reward patient cellaring. The Armchair Critic Heathcote Shiraz is sourced from the Colby Vineyard.

Winemaking Philosophy

The wines are made with a minimalist approach and a focus on maximum fruit and hence regional expression. Sustainable viticulture leads to low yields and moderate alcohol which is followed with minimal additions and limited oak. The wines are fresh and vibrant and approachable in their youth.
